Flipped Teaching
Maximize class time by flipping your content. In any flipped model, responsibility for learning is shifted onto students as teachers take on the role of facilitator.
What is flipped teaching?Flipped teaching has been taking the education world by storm, in part because it makes a ton of sense in a backwards-turned-around kind of way. The most basic concept of flipping boils down to having your students work with you and collaboratively in class, while completing direct instruction components at home. It's a great model for efficiency, because students get more one-on-one time with their teacher and class time is used more productively for projects, activities, exploration, etc. This year I've made it my mission to flip all of my Social Studies content, and so far I've been able to successfully implement a flipped environment. The really amazing part of flipping your classroom is what you are able to do with the "rescued" time with your students. Will you engage your students in project-based learning? Challenge-based learning? More technology integration? Increased 1:1 time? A 20% Project based on what students are passionate about? The possibilities are endless! Many other flipped classroom models have emerged, including the collaborative flip, the 3-Act flip, and the all-in-class flip.
