Web 2.0: Socrative

Put the Socratic Method to good use electronically through this platform that allows students to take quizzes, respond to oral prompts, and give feedback.

Engagement Through Questioning

Picture
Socrative will revolutionize the way you solicit answers from students during instruction.  An electronic questioning platform, Socrative is device agnostic (usable by both Android and iOS devices) and an indispensable tool to teachers as it exponentially boosts student engagement. Here are a few implementation ideas:

  • Use Socrative as an entry ticket to determine student's prior knowledge about content or evaluate their retention from previous lessons.
  • Use Socrative as an exit ticket to determine student understanding of content as it was delivered.
  • During the lesson, have students respond to multiple choice, true/false, or short answer questions.
  • BONUS TIP: When Socrative aggregates student responses for you, it automatically grades the multiple choice questions!
  • Play the "Space Race" game to encourage students to competitively and cooperatively answer questions with the goal of winning a rocket ship race. (This is a fantastic feature for elementary or even middle school students!)
  • Language Arts: Pose comprehension or analysis questions to students using Socrative as students read a selection.
  • Social Studies: Solicit student opinions about historical events, the actions of government, and controversial issues that can then be discussed in class.
  • Science: Drive home important content vocabulary by starting and ending each class with a quick quiz, Socrative-style.
